A 6-hour bus journey up to townsville later I arrived in Townsville, a nice chilled out city. We checked into our hostel and I went out for some food. After dinner I went to the cinema to see the new Pirates of the Caribean. The movie ended quite late, so I wandered back to my hostel and caught a good night sleep. The next day I had to get up early to catch the ferry to the next destination; Magnetic Island.
Magnetic Island is an island next to townsville. It has beautiful scenery with a beautfiul beach with palm trees. The hostel we were staying at was very nice as well, right ON the beach. Me and Alex decided to rent a little car to cruise around the island, especially because they looked so much fun to drive in. We rented one that afternoon and we drove it the whole afternoon up and down the island. We had the best time ever, horning to everyone on the streets. The next day we took the car again for a spin and we had lunch at a bar on the other side of the island. Unfortunately we only had the “Moke” for 24 hours, so later in the afternoon we had to take it back. With the rent came 60 KM’s for free, the woman at the office told us that was more than enough to explore the island as much as we liked… BUT as we liked to race it up and down the island for two afternoons, we managed to drive around 112KM’s that day (consider the road to the other side of the island is only 12KM’s). We had to pay 50 bucks extra, but we didn’t care cause we had the best fun ever anyway with it.
After returning the car we decided to have some beers. I helped out on cooking some food and after dinner we had some more drinks. It became a funny night, eventhough the island was really quite and not much going on. Unfortunately we missed the full-moon party by just one day, which was supposed to be much more fun.
The next day I caught the ferry back to Townsville. From there I had the bus to Mission Beach.
The boys were due to do White Water Rafting in Mission Beach, but as I’m running out of money AND the fact my foot was still hurting, I decided not to join them. Instead I had a chilled out day in Mission Beach. Unfortunately the weather happened to be quite bad, so I spend the day playing card games and watching television. That night it was my turn to prepare dinner, so I bought some rice, chicken, sauce and vegetables. It became a true success and I received the compliments from the boys. The next day the travel went on to Cairns, where I’ve just arrived. Cairns seems to be a nice city. I’ll be spending the next week there, before I move on to Darwin. Soon I’ll book my PADI diving course, which I’m planning to do here too.
Soon more updates from down-under!!
