Soooo… It has been a while since I’ve had some time to write something in my blog again. The last couple of days have been an absolute blast. Lots of things have been happening eversince I left Wellington. Firstly I found a dutch food shop along the way where I bought some truly dutch products. Cocktail worstjes, Vlokken and stroopwafels. Anyways.. After some partying in Wellington we went on to Taupo. The weather was unfortunately not really good. Lots of rain (the first rain they’ve been getting this summer so far, just my luck). After my arrival in Taupo we went to a hot water pool. A river which had been heated by earth itself. The water was truly cookingly hot. It was a really nice experience, in the cold weather in a warm river.
The day after I went on to Rotorua. A city located in a crater of an old volcano, which you could notice right away by the smell of rotting eggs all over town. The night in Rotorua I went to a meeting with Maori’s in one of their villages. As it was kind of a turistic attraction and they not really lived in the village anymore, it was nice to see some of their culture. They had a nice ceremony with music, dance etc. Afterwards we had dinner there as well which was good as well. (finally some proper food for a change). Of course I ate loads of stuff, just to get some value for my money.
The day after I had a daytrip to Waitomo. Here you’re able to do Black Water Rafting, which was supposed to really good. It turned out to be a real adventures trip in a cave underground. Firstly we learned how to abseil, cause we had to abseil a 60 meter high wall deep into the cave. We had helmets and wetsuits on with lights on top of the helmets. It was truly dark in there, you’d see truly nothing without a light. Then later we were hooked to a cable and glided down on a cable into the dark which was quite scary. There we had a little break with some tea and a cookie. Then we went tubing. With a big black tube around your bottom we jumped from a pretty high rock into the black and dark cave. There we tubed along the cold water through the cave where we were checking out some glowworms. After the tubing we headed into the other direction of the cave where we had to climb big rocks along a waterfall. It was really adventures and not without danger either. You could easily fall down as we weren’t strapped to any safety cords or the likes. But everything went fine and it was really really cool. After a hot shower and some hot soup we headed back to Rotorua where I baked some dutch pancakes.
