Bay of Islands & Cape Reinga

After arriving in Auckland I headed basicly straight to the gym. I hadn’t worked out for quite a while and I felt I really had to work out. I went together with an english guy I met in the bus. I had a good workout and I felt a lot better afterwards. As I hadn’t heard lots of good things about Auckland, I decided to stay there not too long. I decided to use my spare time to go up north to the Bay of Islands. The bus left at 7:00 in the morning from Auckland up to the Bay of Islands. Just by coincedence the driver who was bringing us there happened to be the driver who had been driving me around the whole west-coast of the southern island, so it was fun to see her again. After a few hours in the bus we arrived in Paihia, a small town in the middle of the bay of islands. After arriving I went to the beach with some friends I made along the way in the kiwi-bus. They only stayed for the day. I decided to stay for about 4 days in the bay of islands, since I have some time left.
I went to bed early, since I had to get up early AGAIN, since my bus up to the top of new zealand, Cape Reinga, was leaving at 7:15 in the morning. The trip up to Cape Reinga was excellent. We had great weather and the views were really good as well. We went to the top of New Zealand.. The far top of the Northern Island. Afterwards we went to the beach where we went sandboarding. Sandboarding is really really cool and the dunes are really steep and high. After 3 runs I was too tired to walk up again (my calfs aren’t what they used to be I suppose). After the sandboarding we went back across the beach, which was quite an experience as well. On the beach we made a quick stop to catch some Tua Tua. Those are shells you can only find in the northern part of New Zealand. You can crack them right open and eat them raw, which I did. Afterwards we headed back to civilication where we ate some fish’n’chips at some shop who has been nominated a few times for having the best fish’n’chips of New Zealand.
At around 18:00 we got back. Tonight it’s St. Patrick’s night, so there will be lots of party’s going on. I won’t be partying too much, since tomorrow I’ll be kayaking across the bay of islands.

That’s it for now all 🙂

Take care and I’ll keep you all updated..
