Day 5
We decided to explore the city of Zagreb today. After a nice picknick in the park we walked into town. Zagreb is a nice city with quite a few churches and a big cathedral. Maria joined us as well. We walked the whole afternoon. After exploring the city we headed back to the hostel as we had to book our bus to the Plitvice lakes.
After we had the bus booked we chilled out on the couch of the hostel with a beer. Afterwards we had a little nap and a shower. That night we went into town for some dinner. We ended up eating a big plate of meat again, as thats what the Croatian kitchen has to offer and its quite cheap too (70 Kuna – 8 euro).
After dinner we headed back to the hostel as we were all really tired. Besides, the next day we had to get up early to catch our bus to Plitvice.
Day 6
My alarm rang at 7am. We got up and had a shower. We said bye to Maria and off we went on the bus to the Plitvice lakes. The ride took about 2,5 hours. Once there we dropped our backpacks at the tourist office. The park is on the UNESCO list and I could see why. The environmnent is incredibly beautiful. The lakes with crystal clear water and the waterfalls made it a really nice experience. Unfortunately we werent able to swim in the water as the lakes are protected by UNESCO. The walk we did took about 4 hours. We had to wait a bit for the electric boat that would take us to another part of the park.
After finishing our walk we sat down with an ice cream and some water. From there we waited for a little train that would bring us back to the entrance of the park. The train took a bit longer than expected, so we were in a rush to get back to the entrance of the park, as our bus was coming soon that would take us to the next city: Zadar.
Fortunately we were just in time for the bus. Another guy who was on our bus that morning to the park caught the bus too, al though he decided to do the whole walk with his heavy backpack on his bag. He asked us where we were going. He decided to join us to the hostel too.
About 3 hours later we arrived at the bus terminal of Zadar. From there we took a local bus to the hostel. The only problem was that we didnt know at which stop to get off. After about 30 minutes we were back at where we started, at the busterminal. It turned out the bus was driving in circles. The bus driver told us to stay seated and he would tell us where to get off.
After another 20 minutes we arrived at the correct bus stop. The hostel was just around the corner and seemed really nice with a big patio and a bar in the open air. The temperature was still really nice too at 9pm. We decided to first have a little swim in the sea before we would go for dinner. We had a little cool dive in the sea and the French guy, Cliff, joined us too. After the dive we sat down at a nearby restaurant for some food.
I ordered a steak as I wasnt really all that hungry. Once the steak came it turned out to be half a cow. The steak was at least 800 grams. The waiter kept saying Yes! Its the best steak in the whole galaxy!
After dinner we had a few drinks in the hostelbar. After that went a bit quiet we decided to head into town for some clubbing. We grabbed a taxi and off we went. The club turned out all right, but there seemed to be a big lack of girls in the place. We decided to have a few drinks anyway. We left the club around 4am as we had to check out that very morning at 10.
Day 7
Getting up was a tad hard as we had been having quite a few drinks the night before. We finally ended up checking out an hour after we were allowed to. Thankfully the guy at reception was cool about it. We threw our bags in the luggage storage and went to explore the town with Cliff and another French guy we met.
The afternoon turned out really fun. The two French guys were good fun and the city center turned out to be really beautiful. After walking through the city we had a little swim in the port. Right next to a Sea Organ theyve built out there. What basically happens is when the waves hit the side of the dock, it creates sounds.
Afterwards we had some food and headed back to the hostel. That night we decided to go out to a party island called Pag. The island is supposedly the Ibiza of Croatia. Luc, me and the two French guys were going, while Sidney decided to stay in.
A big red bus departed at 21:00 from the center of Zadar. This bus was specifically meant for party people with speakers and a bar inside. THe only problem was that it was just us who were on the bus. Thankfully we were able to start the party ourselves as we had brought some booz to survive the two hour trip to the island.
Once we arrived we didnt know what we saw. This beach was just insane. It felt like some sort of full moon party with clubs everywhere on the beach. We walked around the clubs and had drinks here and there. Soon enough we kind of lost each other, so we were all partying with other people we met that night.
At 5am the bus was leaving back to Zadar. Unfortunately I didnt make the bus, as I didnt check my watch as often as I should had. I ended up staying at the party beach till the end which was till around 7am.
Afterwards I grabbed a local bus back to civilzation. Once there at the bus terminal I had to wait for a good two hours for the first bus to Zadar. I sat down with two girls from Latvia who were having the same problem. I was extremely tired but talking to them was the best way to kill the two hour waiting time.
Day 8
After catching the bus back to Zadar I had to catch a local bus again to get back to the hostel. I looked like a zombie walking through the streets of Zadar not having slept for over 24 hours. Once I came back to the hostel I found the guys on the beach. I brushed my teeth, changed into my swimming shorts and had a little nap on the beach.
Unfortunately I had to get up again to arrange our bustickets to Dubrovnik, as we were catching a bus that night. So off we went to the busstation to get the tickets. The rest of the day I chilled out in the hostel garden and even had another little sleep in the shade. We had some dinner at one of the restaurants nearby and then off we went to the busstation for our bus to Dubrovnik.
The bus got in over half an hour later than expected. The ride took about 8 hours, so in the early morning we arrived at the busterminal of Dubrovnik. Even though I did not catch a lot of sleep on the nightbus which stopped every few hours to let people get on and off, I felt all right.
