Well.. It has been a while since I wrote something down here in my blog.. Everything is great out here. After arriving in Nelson the other day, I’ve been toning it down a bit considering the excursions. I’ve been to the gym and to the beach in Nelson and have been partying there some nights as well. I also walked to the center of New Zealand, which was a 20 minute walk steep upwards onto the mountain.
After those couple of days in Nelson I went on to Westport. During the ride to Westport, we went for an hour walk through the mountains which was a nice experience, I was able to make some very nice pictures of the scenery around here as well. After arriving in Westport I had the choice to either do some Quad Biking, Horse Riding or Jet boating. But I didn’t really felt like spending money on these kind of activities, plus I felt a bit hungover because of the night before. So I ended up taking it easy. That night we went with the whole Kiwi-bus to the beach to make a campfire, whcih was really fun.
The day after we went on to Lake Mahinapua. During the ride to the Lake, we stopped at the Punakaiki Pancake Rocks & Blowholes. Which are rocks which are being “eaten” by the wind and the sea, which creates a really weird effect. That night we had a “theme night”. We all had to come up with dressing that started with the letter “S”. We had no clue what to wear and in the end we bought us some blue skinpaint and white bathinghats, I and 3 other guys were together the smurfs. We looked ridicilous, but it was funny none-the-less. That night the bus-driver, a women named Flea, cooked us a BBQ with a steak and wild deer. It was all very funny and everybody on the bus became really drunk. Later on we went to the beach to watch the stars, which was fun as well.
The day after we headed on to Franz Josaf. This is the town where the Glaciers are at. I booked an excursion into the glaciers for an 8 hour walk. We will be heading into the mountains and walk over the ice. All this will happen tomorrow. This afternoon I went paintballing with 14 other people of the bus in a rainforest, which was really cool. There were bushes everywhere to hide behind and the whole area was 100x100m which was pretty big of course. Tonight we went for a walk through a 1KM long, dark, small tunnel. What I didn’t know, was that there even ran a small river through the tunnel and we had only 3 flashlights. I was walking on my bare feet, which hurted quite a bit and the ice-cold water wasn’t helping either. After walking for 10 – 15 minutes through the tunnel, we found out they closed the rest of the tunnel down with a gate, so we had to head back. It was quite an adventure on its own. The day after tomorrow I’ll be heading down to Wanaka, where I’ll be doing a 12,000 FT skydive. It will also be recorded with a handycam, so I’ll be able to show you all at home how it has been. Later in Queenstown I’ll be doing a bungyjump, but that’s all later.
I think you’re all pretty much up-to-date again, so I’ll let you all know once I’ve got more adventures to tell!
