The last week I’ve been enjoying the city-life of Melbourne and the beach-life of St. Kilda. With the accomodation in St.Kilda you get the best of both worlds; nice laid-back holiday atmosphere near the beach and one tramride away from busy Melbourne. Last week I’ve been to the cinema with two Irish guys I met in my hostel. We went to the cinema which is located inside of the big Crown Casino. We went to see Disturbia which is quite a nice movie too. A few days later I went with a couple of english and scottish guys to an Australian Football match – not to be confused with American Football by the way. It took me at least 30 minutes to finally understand how the game actually “works”. There are 36 players in the field, 4 referees and a couple of guys with bottles of water in their hands which they hand to the players from time to time… A really disorganised and messy sight, but in a way funny as well. It was great to experience a match like this in the big MCG stadium of Melbourne together with all the die-hard AFL fans. The great thing about Melbourne is how alive the city really is. The other day I went for a wander around the city. When I walked past Federation Square I saw a lot of people on the square. It turned out to be a concert from an australian artist (John Butler) who introduced his new album by giving a free concert. Some other night I met up with a girl, Tracy, who happens to live in St. Kilda who I met in Sydney 2 months ago. It was really nice to see her again. As she’s from New Zealand herself it was quite nice to talk about New Zealand since I’ve just gotten back from there. Today I went for a walk through the city, visiting most of the touristic stuff, like the botanical gardens, federation square and the queen victoria park. Tonight the Red Hot Chili Peppers are going to perform in the same park, but as the entrance is about $400 (~240) – and totally sold out – I will just check it out from the outside 🙂 Oh, and last weekend I went for a run again along the beachfront of St. Kilda, which was really good as well.
