Hello Everybody!!!
Lets start off saying it’s HOT out here!!!
Luc and me arrived this morning in Bangkok after a 14 hour flight from Amsterdam. We left from Schiphol Airport at 19:45 last night and flew into Zurich around 21:15. Everything according to plan! From there we caught a very cool subway train to the other terminal from where our airplane was going to depart to this crazy city we’re in now!
We had one hour to kill at the airport of Zurich, and to make it a bit more pleasent we decided to build a little party with my new ipod speakers in the terminal of the airport. After an hour of waiting we boarded into the big airbus and left according to schedule. The flight was really good. We watched a movie (monsters vs. aliens for those interested) and afterwards I have beaten Luc at playing Tetris on the entertainment system. Afterwards we had a pasta meal with a gin and tonic. Then we slept through most of the (fl/n)ight. Once we woke up we had breakfast and we landed according to plan around 14:15 local time.
We grabbed our luggage, changed into some lighter clothes and then went to the busterminal to catch a shuttle bus to the backpackers district of Bangkok called Koa San Road. After a 45 minute drive we arrived and we were pleasently surprised by the citty. The city is much cleaner and less crowded than first expected, although like most Asian cities it does smell a bit every where. On top of that – it’s really warm!!!
We decided to have a meal on Kao San Road before looking for acccomodation. We went to have a typical Thai lunch with a nice cold Thai Tiger beer in the main backpackers street. Afterwards we went to look for a place to sleep, but we were instantly completely lost. We had no clue where we were walking on the map. So after 45 minutes of wakling around the backpackers area, we just walked into a guesthouse and asked for a room. The room appeared be perfect for us, two single beds with airconditionnig and private bathroom for about 9 euro’s a night, that’s less than 5 euro’s per person!!! Great deal!!
After a cold shower we went to explore the neighbourhood a bit and were completely lost immdediately after leaving the guesthouse. But finally we found our way back to the mainstreet. From there I bought me a simcard for my phone and it turned out we were already scammed by the tourist information. She sold me the simcard for about 3 times as expensive as supposed, but all in all I payed 4 euro’s instead of 1.
Tonight we’ll be checking out the city. Have some food and a few drinks. Tomorrow we’re planning a trip around the city to check out the touristy stuff..
