The whole town is connected by a long, narrow walkway that goes through the whole island. It’s apparently in the Guinness book of records for being the longest narrow walkway on earth. On the walkway are numerous guest houses, shops and restaurants.
Placencia turned out to be a lot less developed than I expected. For some reason I was expecting a well developed city with paved streets and a big boulevard with expensive hotels. It turned out to be quite the contrary with sandy roads and restaurants on the beach. We went to an American bar for some dinner. There we found the downside of Placencia; it is full of retired Americans. The main population of Placencia seemed to consist of them.
We had some food and kept on drinking. That night they organised a trivia night. Unfortunately it was very much focused on the United States, so we soon enough lost our interest. Jannik got so annoyed at one point that he grabbed the paper, made a ball out of it and threw it at the bar. We decided to head back to the hostel and chill there.
After having a bit of sleep in, we were greeted by an American couple who we met on the sailing trip. They asked us whether we would join them to a beach party which was organised for Bob Marley’s 70th birthday. We joined them and we finally had breakfast around 13.30. Breakfast consisted of a bucket of beers and lobster salad.
The beach party was very chilled out with a lot of reggea music. Later on a reggea band started playing which was great fun. In the meantime we already had quite a few drinks, so we had a good afternoon buzz going. We drank for the rest of the afternoon. That night we had dinner at an Italian restaurant. At the dock we tried to find a guy who said he could sail us to Livingston in Guatemala, but we never found him. That night Jannik went out to party, but I fell asleep.
