After a 30+ hour travel from Holland I’ve finally arrived in the warm and sunny Sydney. My travel started last thursday when I started of from Amsterdam to London Heathrow. After 2 hours of waiting in Heathrow the long flight from London to Tokyo started. Although I wasn’t really looking forward to going there, it wasn’t all that bad after all. I sat next to a guy from Glasgow who was heading to Sydney as well. He had to wait for 9 hours in Tokyo as well. So in the end we decided to visit Tokyo together. Near the end of the flight one of the cabin crew members told me there was another dutch woman going to Sydney who didn’t really like to go to Tokyo on her own. I met her, so it was the 3 of us now heading for Tokyo. The guy from Glasgow met up with a girl from London and another guy from Australia. All heading for Sydney. IN the end we went all 5 to Tokyo. We took the train to Tokyo and arrived after an hour in the city center called Ueno. We walked around Ueno and went to a Sushi bar to eat some authentic Japenase Sushi. It was quite hard to find a sushi bar at fist, but after asking some of the locals we found one nearby. The sushi was really cheap. A plate costed about 0.70 euro. After about 8 or 9 plates I was really full. Then we went by subway to another metro station closeby where you could see the traditional Tokyo. Without the skyscrapers and the futuristic lights and sounds everywhere. It was nice to walk around the streets there. After about another hour spent there we went back to the train to head back to the airport. Everything went very easy and we were right on time back at the airport. Then the next flight started from Tokyo to Sydney. As I hadn`t slept for about 25 hours since I left Amsterdam, you figure I was quite tired. I slept about 6 out of the 9 hours of the flight, which was good. The best part of it was that I arrived fit and well on saturdaymorning in Sydney.. No jetlag or anything!
After arriving in Sydney I met up again with the dutch woman with who we went to Tokyo. We went into a shuttle bus and headed to her hostel first, since my hostel didn;t allow me to check in before noon. After she checked in we walked through the center looking for my hostel. Around noon we arrived at my hostel and I checked in. After freshing up we went for a walk in the center of Sydney. The temperature is about 30 degrees and no cloud to be seen. The first moment I saw Sydney, I liked it a lot. The atmosphere is excellent and people are quite european. Sydney has loads of shops and restaurants which are cheaper than eating out in Amsterdam. I walked all the way from downtown Sydney to the harbour and from the harbour to the famouse Harbour Bridge and the Operah house. After seeing all of this we headed back to the hostel.
When we arrived at my hostel we went down to the bistro of my hostel where I had a pizza. I found out they were organising a DUTCH Party that night. What a coincedence! After the pizza I went into my room where I met the other people who are sleeping in my room as well. Two canadian girls, 3 Germans and a guy from Ipswitch. I asked them to come with me to the Dutch party at the hostel downstairs. The guy and one of the canadian girls joined me. I felt right at home drinking my Heineken beer and listening to the dance music I am listening to every weekend when I go to Amsterdam. The disco went on uptil 3 AM. Then we headed back to our room for a good sleep.
The next morning I slept till about 10. Then I went to the supermarket and bought me some Cornflakes and milk. Then after eating my breakfast I went together with the guy from Ipswitch, marc, around Sydney to buy a simcard. After walking around Sydney and buying my simcard, we went back to the hostel where I found out my cellular phone is sim-locked. I have to head back to get that arranged, otherwise I will have to buy another phone. We will see..
That`s about everything that happened uptil now. So far I love everything I have seen. Sydney is beautiful. I already regret I am “only” staying here for 5 months… Time for me to arrange my phone so some of you will be able to call me whenever nescessary. I will keep you all updated! Catch you soon and no worries mate!
