Fraser Island!!

After arriving at Rainbow Beach in the afternoon, I checked in and went to the beach. Afterwards I had some dinner for 4 dollars at the hostel and had a few drinks that same night. The day after I went to the beach again and sat there for the afternoon. Late in the afternoon we had to be back at the hostel for a briefing about our trip to Fraser Island. They showed us a video about the rules on fraser island and what to do if you happened to encounter a wild dingo, Afterwards we had to sign a contract for renting the 4×4 car etc..
The next day we got up early, the trip was about to begin! We had to pack all of our camping gear on the roof of the truck and make sure everything was completye. We then received the cool-boxes full of food. We received some instructions about when to use the 4×4 gears and where to drive on the island, since the whole island is nothing but sand. About 2 hours later everyone was ready to go and we drove off to the ferry. The ferry ride took only 5 minutes, as the island is really close to the main land. We entered the beach and started driving. There are no roads on Fraser Island, so the main road is the beach. Anywhere you want to go, is just driving on the beach. We drove to the first little stop where we had a toilet break. We then rode through to the first site on the island, A lookout point somewhere on a big hill. After a real safari tour through the bush on a sandy road, we finally arrived at the lookout. We made ourselves some sandwhiches. While we were eating our sandwhiches, a car arrived with 3 guys in there.. They turned out to be our surfing instructors of the mojo surf camp 2 weeks ago! Such a coincedence to see them right here on Fraser Island! It was great to see them again and they asked us whether we liked to go party that night. Of course we were all -up for it so we drove down the hill and chose a place to setup our tents. After setting up our tents we played a game we played earlier on the mojo surf camp called “beersbee”. It involves a lot of drinking so everybody was getting quite drunk already. Afterwards we had some dinner and went on drinking more. We tried to light a camp-fire, although it’s actually not allowed to do so. Unfortunately the campfire wouldn’t really work, so in the end we left it as it was. We partied all evening and finally went to bed.
The next morning we got up fairly early. We had breakfast, broke up the tents and packed everything on the car again to go to the next stop on the island. After getting us some new water and some ice for the cool-boxes, we were off to the most northern part of the island where there’s a nice lookout point with a beautiful view. We then had a little walk along the beach-line to the champagne pools, not too far away from there. After a little swim in the champagne pools, we walked back to the car. I drove us the way back to a new spot to setup camp again. It was pretty cool to drive the 4×4 across the beach. After we had found a spot, we had setup camp. I had a little sleep, because it was a tiring day. Then we cooked ourselves some dinner, and started to drink again. There were 5 cars on the island from hostel, so we all setup our tents next to each other, to form a big camp. We played some drinking games and afterwards we went to sleep again.
The final day on the island we had breakfast, broke up our camp and drove off to the final location, Lake Mckenzie. By far the most beautiful lake I have ever seen in my life. It could possibly been ripped right outside of a Bounty television-commercial. We had a little swim and lunch and then we had to head back to the ferry. Unfortunately we took the wrong turn and ended up on the wrong side of the island. We had to drive all the way back which costed us about an extra hour. We were later than intended and the tight was already setting in. We had to drive paritally through the sea as the water was getting further and further on the beach. We finally made it to the ferry and we drove back to the hostel. There we had to clean up the car and the car had a little check to see nothing was broken during the trip. Everything was fine and we were not charged with additional fees. These 3 days were a great experience and were by far one of the highlights of my trip.
Next I’ll travel up to Airlie Beach for my birthday, as this happens to be a real party town. Then from there we’ll do a trip to the Whitsunday Islands on a sailing-boat.

I’ll report back with more stuff soon!
